"NUDES IN MOTION"

Recent oil on paper collection by Sagada-based artist

Cecilia Uhing

20 April to 03 May 2009

Women with bodies nimble and nubile while men are in the buff; each one completely free, unfettered by clothing. Cecilia Uhing underscores this freedom with motion as she exalts the magnificence of human forms, all beautiful in their imperfection. In their facelessness they cause empathy and perhaps even bring out in viewers a wish to be as uninhibited.

The artist celebrates the himan physique and being comfortable in one's own skin not only in her depictions of nudity bringing greater ease of movement but also as she utilizes the actual color of her papers to accentuate skintones. With her own lithe, light strokes she animates her subjects and makes oil, appear  almost like watercolor. Uhing's works seem to hark back to the days when nides were not merely products of session,' when bodies came to life as a result of the artist's reverent and passionate hand.
